Original Painting by Pat Bavin, completed in 2024. Acrylic/Collage on Birch Panel, 12” x 16”, unframed, ready to hang.
The Wilmer Assay Office painting is an example of Bavin’s collage technique where the papers are all Japanese washi rice papers (see Brommer collage methods). The original Assay Office is pushed forward be detail and colour and the darker background structure is a newer addition to the original building. Whenever possible Pat likes including valley landmarks such as Chisel Peak which are usually exaggerated in size. The collage paper composition is a radial design which brings the eye to the off centered focal of the Assay Office using 3 different textured rice papers. To enhance and tell the story of Wilmer, the picket fence draws the eye as do the 3 green ovoids that mingle with the shrubs.
